Humanitarian Assistance

RAI can respond to natural disasters and conflict regions to bring critical services and support to where it is most needed. We are committed to implementing programs that provide protection, gender-based violence care and prevention, educational support and needs-based livelihood development. We seek to address human suffering while paying attention to the sensitivities of the most vulnerable and strive to remain impartial, with program design based on the needs of the communities impacted. While Humanitarian Assistance encompasses a multitude of services and approaches, the services are interrelated, and all seek to restore dignity and humanity to affected people. As such, RAI promotes a holistic approach to program planning and implementation.

Protection

When the institutions responsible for law enforcement and protection breakdown, there is no one left to ensure safety and security. Growing numbers of women, particularly adolescents and young adults, are forced to make increasingly negative choices that put them at high risk of protection violations. Child labor and child marriage among displaced people can become more prevalent. RAI works with communities to protect vulnerable persons and develop the capabilities of self-help and self-reliance.

Food Security and Livelihoods

RAI is committed to helping communities move beyond food distributions and engage in sustainable economicactivities. We seek to achieve this through the implementation of market-driven livelihoods projects that are supported by pre-existing skills that improve the self-reliance of displaced people. Our approach is also to connect livelihoods with agriculture and food production, thereby helping communities meet their basic needs through consumer-based income-generating activities to promote food security.

Gender-based Violence& Psychosocial Support

Gender-based violence (GBV) is any act that occurs against victims based on gender and unequal power relationships. RAI works to prevent GBV in conflict settings and support those affected. Displacement increases violence against women and children. Psychosocial support helps vulnerable people cope with the unkind reality of displacement, trauma, and the increasing tension both within the household and the community at large.

Education

Education is a foundational driver of development and is fundamental to achieving self-relianceand uplifting societies.During crises, education is often not available. Economic and health concerns may prevent attendance and participation. Out-of-school youth face social and developmental challenges, often leading to criminal, regressive, and destructive behavior. The more children are deprived of the stabilizing nature of education, the more they face the risk of exposure to violence and psychological impairment. An intensive effort is needed to provide education and help youths gain the education needed to build a better future.
